Play Contexto online for free and search for a hidden word using meaning-based clues. Every guess receives a numerical rank, helping you move from broad ideas toward the secret answer without relying on matching letters.
You can make unlimited guesses, request an optional hint, and return to previous puzzles when you want another challenge. Type a word, study its rank, and keep exploring related concepts until you reach number 1.

Contexto is a semantic word-guessing puzzle. Unlike games that reveal correct letters or positions, it compares each submitted word with the hidden answer according to the contexts in which words are used. A lower rank indicates a stronger contextual connection, while rank 1 identifies the secret word.
The original Contexto was created by Brazilian software engineer Nildo Junior and was inspired by Semantle. The game embedded on this page is a separate browser implementation, so its interface and available options may differ from the original version.
| Game Type | Semantic word puzzle |
|---|---|
| Main Goal | Find the secret word at rank 1 |
| Guess Limit | Unlimited |
| Feedback | Numerical contextual ranking |
| Puzzle Options | Daily, previous, and random games |
| Languages | English and Portuguese |
| Platform | Desktop and mobile web browsers |
Contexto does not measure shared letters. Its ranking system looks at how words are used across a large collection of text and places words with related contexts closer together. That means a synonym can rank well, but so can an object, action, location, or idea commonly associated with the answer.
For example, if a food-related word receives a much better rank than guesses connected with travel or technology, the target may belong to a food, kitchen, restaurant, or cooking-related context. The exact numerical gap is not a definition of the word; it is a guide showing which direction appears more promising.
Because the ranking comes from patterns in text, some connections may feel indirect or surprising. Compare several strong guesses instead of relying on a single result.
The embedded version includes tools that can change how you approach the puzzle:
A strong opening does not need to be close to the answer. Its purpose is to test a broad area of meaning. Start with words from different categories, then follow the category that receives the lowest rank.
| Category | Example Starting Words | What They Test |
|---|---|---|
| People | person, family, worker | Roles, relationships, and occupations |
| Places | city, home, country | Locations, buildings, and geography |
| Objects | tool, machine, device | Physical items and their functions |
| Nature | animal, plant, water | Living things and the environment |
| Actions | make, move, speak | Activities and processes |
| Ideas | time, reason, knowledge | Abstract subjects and concepts |

| Feature | Contexto | Wordle |
|---|---|---|
| Main Clue | Contextual relationship | Letter position |
| Feedback | Numerical rank | Colored letter tiles |
| Word Length | Not fixed | Five letters |
| Attempts | Unlimited | Six |
| Winning Result | Reach rank 1 | Place every letter correctly |
Contexto runs directly in a modern browser on desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and phones. The text-based controls adjust naturally to physical and on-screen keyboards, so no separate download or browser extension is required for the version available on this page.
